September Independent Reading Lesson Plans
Wednesday 9/30
Today is mid-term! Be sure your reading log is up to date. Many of you have Magazine Monday activities and journals to catch up with, so we will not do a journal today. Keep reading! We WILL do a journal activity on Friday!
Monday 9/28: Magazine Monday! What's going on in the world today?
Retrieve the 2-sided sheet from your reading folder that has space for national, international, sports and entertainment stories. Pick stories that interest YOU!
Utilize one of these online magazines or a combination of them:
1. U.S. News & World Report
2. Sports Illustrated
3. CNN Entertainment News
4. The New York Times
Choose one National story, one International story, one Sports story, and one Entertainment Story. Complete the Who/What/When/Where/Why activity for each of the 4 articles you select and return activity to your reading folder. Be sure to write in COMPLETE sentences! Put it back in your folder when you finish!
Now READ for the remainder of the class period!

Get comfortable and read! We will take a 2-minute stretch break every day at about 2:40 to grab a drink or go to the restroom. Abuse it, lose it.
Do NOT stand up or pack up when that 3:20 bell rings. Instead of using the last 10 minutes to check your planner and the ELT list, I will circulate while you are reading, so we will read until the end of class.
DO NOT LINE UP AT THE DOOR BEFORE THE BELL RINGS.
